‘Oceanic Ossicles’ is an attempt to reach a similar state of mind as the theta states achieved during float tank sessions. Sasha Drumure, a multi-instrumentalist in Portland, though touring and recording music for over 20 years, had never made a 100% electronic album, but it seemed the best way to achieve the kind of minimalism, and softness, to get just the right effect. The sound choices and production are designed to simulate the auditory blur of hearing things underwater. The slow and droning sequencing of the pisces are intended to replicate the sounds, real and imagined, that one experiences when floating, a mixture of what are normally barely audible actual vibrations becoming more focused, inner frequencies, and the sorts of hums and pulsations of the imagination.

This is a very strange, slow moving, and sensual project, hence the name, Snail Sex. Beautiful and patient, but viscous and at times unnerving. In keeping with an aquatic theme, the titles of these tracks are all various genus, species, or in some cases nicknames, of various ocean or sea snails that live largely underwater, ‘Oceanic’.

‘Oceanic is also a good word to describe the cavernous revelations in many of these tracks. ‘Ossicles’ are three of the tiniest bones in the human body, in the middle ear near the eardrum. So the listener will have a chance of not falling fully asleep hypnotized by throbbing sub-bass frequencies, each track is progressively busier and more complex offering gradually more unexpected sounds to rouse you slightly, from the trance, just enough to see it through...
